Whitehead Institute adds Boston Children’s Hospital president and CEO Kevin Churchwell to its board of directors

At its June 9, 2021 meeting, the Whitehead Institute Board of Directors elected Kevin B. Churchwell, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Boston Children’s Hospital, to a six-year term.
 
“We are very pleased to have Kevin join our Board,” says board chair Sarah Keohane Williamson. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in research, education, and the management of complex biomedical organizations. And he is a tireless advocate for diversity in science. We are excited to welcome him back to Kendall Square.”
 
“Whitehead Institute has a storied history of achievement in foundational biomedical research,” says Churchwell, “and I look forward to helping shape the future of this important and impactful organization.”

Churchwell became Boston Children’s President and CEO this past March, having previously been its Executive Vice President of Health Affairs and Chief Operating Officer since 2013. He also serves on the Harvard Medical School faculty as the Robert and Dana Smith Associate Professor of Anesthesia and as an Associate Professor of Pediatric Anesthesia. Prior to joining Boston Children’s, Churchwell was CEO of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware and of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, Churchwell completed his pediatric residency and a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Boston Children's Hospital.
