Raja H. R. Bobbili Joins Whitehead Institute Board of Directors

The Whitehead Institute Board of Directors has elected Raja H. R. Bobbili to a six-year term. Bobbili is a managing director at Abrams Capital, a Boston-based investment firm. At Abrams Capital, Bobbili helps lead investments across a range of industries and asset classes.

“We are thrilled to welcome Raja to our board of directors,” says board chair Sarah Keohane Williamson. “His accomplishments, knowledge, and global perspectives are a perfect match for Whitehead Institute’s mission of forging new frontiers in science and uncovering insights today that unlock the potential of tomorrow.”

“It is with immense gratitude and deep admiration that I join the board of the Whitehead Institute, an organization whose contributions to basic biomedical research have been nothing short of awe-inspiring,” said Bobbili. “I am humbled and honored to be a part of the Institute, and I look forward to working with Ruth Lehmann and the board to support Whitehead’s continued success.”

Born in India and raised in Zambia, Bobbili earned his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bobbili spent two years at McKinsey & Company as a management consultant, working on operational restructurings of large companies during the 2008-2009 recession. He then pursued a joint graduate program at Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, earning a JD and an MBA degree. His studies at Harvard were underwritten by a full scholarship award from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.

Bobbili was named to the 2017 Forbes “30 Under 30” list for finance. He has served on the board of trustees of MIT (MIT Corporation) and the Harvard Business School Alumni Board, and he is presently active on various corporate boards.

Bobbili lives in Boston with his wife and two daughters.
