In Memoriam, David H. Koch, Former Member of the Whitehead Institute Board of Directors

David H. Koch, former member of the Whitehead Institute Board of Directors and prominent philanthropist has passed away, according to his brother, Koch Industries Chairman and CEO Charles Koch.

Koch, an ardent supporter of biomedical research at world-class institutions, served on the Whitehead Institute Board for more than a decade, stepping down in June, 2018, when illness forced him to relinquish most of his business and nonprofit leadership roles.

“Whitehead Institute has benefited greatly from David Koch’s knowledge, experience, and passion for biomedical research, both basic and translational,” says David C. Page, Director of Whitehead Institute and a professor of biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“We have also been the beneficiaries of David’s philanthropic support and vision,” Page says. “His gifts have fostered the Institute’s capacity to advance biomedical research and to train future generations of scientific leaders. Our community has benefited enormously from the intellectual and technical resources of the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT, with which we have many collaborations. Countless individual patients around the world will benefit from his extraordinary support for research that is helping shape the future of cancer diagnosis and treatment.”
