In this interactive talk, Dr. Bettye Kearse will explore the history and significance of Juneteenth through the lens of one family. It will be held virtually on Wednesday June 30th from 1:30 – 2:30 PM.

Dr. Kearse is a retired pediatrician and geneticist. She is also her family’s oral historian and the author of the award-winning memoir The Other Madisons: The Lost History of a President’s Black Family. Her writing has appeared in TIMEMental Floss, the Boston HeraldRiver Teeth, and Black Lives Have Always Mattered, and was listed as notable in The Best American Essays. She earned a Ph.D. in Biology from New York University, and an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
