Birds are Everywhere

Drawing from nature is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to discover the plants and animals around you. There is crossover value for everyone: practice drawing from life; hone observation skills; deepen knowledge of the natural world. With simple sketching techniques we can develop our ability to really see the details of what is going on around us.

On Friday, February 17, 2023 students from across New England and beyond joined BioNook and natural science illustrator/avid birder, Sandy McDermott, to celebrate the 26th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count with Birds are Everywhere, an online scientific workshop introducing middle and high school students to the art of creating nature journals with an emphasis on using drawing as a tool for observation.

The workshop allows students to continue to explore the connection between science and art as part of their regular curricula and daily lives as learners and to build connections to their local environments.

The FREE workshop was open to students in grades 6-12.
