Whitehead Institute mourns the loss of Arthur Schleifer, Jr.

The Whitehead Institute community is saddened by the passing of our dear friend Arthur Schleifer, Jr.

Arthur was a longtime member of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee Chair. Before his retirement, he was the James J. Hill Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, as well as a prolific author, researcher, and consultant. His acumen in decision-making and data analysis proved invaluable to the board on many occasions. Arthur was a great supporter of Whitehead Institute, who is fondly remembered by those who knew him and whose impact on the institute will be felt for many years to come.

"Arthur was as fine and good a person as I've known," says Whitehead Institute Member David Page, who was the director of the Institute during Arthur's tenure on the board. "He had a droll humor, and a generosity and soft-spoken intellect that dwarfed his ego. Arthur thoughtfully and meticulously oversaw (and personally modeled!) Whitehead Institute's finances as if they were those of his own family. I feel privileged to have known Arthur throughout his time serving our Institute and in the years after."

The Whitehead Institute extends our heartfelt condolences to Arthur’s loved ones. A link to his full obituary can be found here.
